     It wasn,t till 2015 when other TV makers developed the manufacturing ability to produce a home use OLED TV ... Organic Light Emitting Diode TV. Sony introduced larger models, but they were very expensive to make larger. So, Sony concentrated on developing high quality precision Broadcast Video Monitors for movie producers to edit, color grade and adjust their movies pictures.
     One of the problems, since each of the pixels was a light bulb, and they were so small, they produced low levels of light (great for a movie editing suite) but not as bright as LED backlit TVs. So, a white pixel was added to increase brightness.
Introducing the Quantum Dot OLED TV.
     As technology advances, improvements are made. OLED TVs got brighter and new ways manufacture panels are developed.e
Sony first introduced Quantum Dots for use in LED TVs in 2013. When a blue light source passes through a layer of quantum dots, first the blue passes through unaltered. Blue then creates red and green, and the QD-OLED is a true red green blue panel for the highest color acccuracy and brightest OLED picture. Sony's less expensive BRAVIA 8 (without the Roman numeral II) is a more conventional OLED panel, without Quantum Dots and adds a white pixel to help with the brightness of the panel. This in turn causes some color inaccuracy.

There are several significant upgrades in the BRAVIA 8 II over its flagship previous model the XR65A95L (whose 77 inch version carries over for the current model year). The BRAVIA 8 II is 25% brighter. The BRAVIA 8 II is more efficient and this allows even better low luminance near absolute black performance and improved contrast.
      As OLED panels give off heat, and heat is bad for electronics, Sony OLED TVs include an aluminum heat sink and the Sony XR processor constantly monitors the whole panel and constantly adjusts for heat. This allows the OLED pixels to be turned brighter, and not create panel failure.
Key to the Sony picture quality is the XR Cognitive Processor which analyzes incoming video and compares object by objects with pristine objects store in the  processor's data bass for a direct comparison. After running through the database twice, it finds objects that match (not the full frame), but object by object and corrects to make it match the near pristine object store in the processor.
     Sony call it Acoustic Surface Audio, which basically vibrates the panel to create sound, along with woofers in the rear (and an optional subwoofer) Sony OLED TVs have the best built-in TV speaker sound on the market. That's make them a great choice for a bedroom set, without the need of a separate soundbar for good sound.
      Remember, Sony makes movies and the BRAVIA 8 includes IMAX Enhanced Certified, and Netflix Calibrated. When you connect with a Sony XR Processor TV, you actually get a different calibrated for Sony version of a movie, than you neighbor watching on another brand TV.
